I am a 49 year old woman who has known the heartbreak of infertility, had issues during perimenopause resulting in several surgeries including a uterine ablation and most recently gone into immediate surgical menopause due to a full hysterectomy. What helped me though each of these stages was the sisterhood of friends and family who shared their experiences with me so I knew what to expect.
Midlife is generally considered ages 40-60 however a woman’s estrogen levels can start dipping as early as 35. I always thought that menopause was something that would happen in my 50’s but I had no idea what perimenopause was until I was in my late 40’s when I had already been going through it for years. Now the conversations with my same age friends seems to circle back to these symptoms as we are finally coming to grips with what is happening in our bodies. And time and time again I hear the phrase, “Why didn’t anyone tell me about that??”
I wanted to start this website as a place to share my experiences, the experiences of others and hopefully pass along information about those things that happen in midlife! Feel free to join our Sisterhood!
